The Gallery – Mother Nature

This week it’s Mother Nature over on the Sticky Fingers blog. I’m a bit rubbish at nature posts, I never feel I can really “capture the essence of nature” in just one photo. Added to that I’ve been a bit brain dead lately (there’s a LOT going on at the mo), I was a little bit stuck. So I had a rummage around and found one of my favourite pictures I took last year, and realised that actually it HAD caught what I thought of Mother Nature.

This is the coast in Dawlish, Devon, at about 10pm. It was incredibly dark and I had (obviously) got my camera with me. I love to capture the sea, but I always want to capture the movement. Not a static wave – the movement of the waves. There were thick clouds above too, moving much the same as the sea; slow, rolling along, slowly but definitely. So I caught the movement – 89 seconds of movement in a single frame.

Unpredictable, unknown, mysterious – that’s what Mother Nature says to me. Click here to go see other Mother Nature posts.

Awesome. I saw a painting vaguely similar to this once, even with similar colours. More abstract though. The painting has haunted me since. I loved the isolation in it, but I also loved that because of the presence of the artist, there wasn't any true isolation. Like here. Great image. Can you tell I love it?!

I think you did a fab job! At first I thought that was a person standing on the pier! I need to get my eyes checked like yesterday! Great picture!

I love it but it's kind of creepy, I think it's the light and blurred waves. Very atmospheric.

That's magical – I love the way your time exposure has turned the water into mist, then the contrast wirth the harsh geometric lines in the foreground, the beacon looking like someone wistfully looking out to the sea, & the lights of the city in the background. Stunning :)
