I can’t even remember how it started, but one year, The Boys got a phenomenal amount of wooden train track to play with. You know the stuff, looks like Brio, smells like Brio, fits together like Brio…but sure as hell isn’t Brio because we’re not bloody rich.
As it turns out, I seem to have built up a new passion. At some point, I turned into a Train Geek.
It started off well, nice and simple, just a few interlocking simple loops. Bridges and tunnels, was all a bit cool.
At some point, I got carried away making tunnels across the coffee tables. But it was ok, you know, still nothing taking the piss or anything. Plus I only had limited track to work with.
..for The Boys. Obviously.
And then I somehow ended up creating questionable shapes. Like this admirable penis.
Was purely accidental. I would be less proud of it, if it had been intentional.
And then, and then, Nanan went and bought the boys some more track. With turn around thingies and level crossings.
This, um, “habit” has become a Track of The Day event in this house now. We get downstairs, and while they eat their breakfast, I casually ask Noah if he would like a train track made up for him. You know, total goodwill gesture.
Obvs.
It’s entirely possible Nanan is coming round with more train track tomorrow. And I may have had a look online for more train track.
For The Smalls.
Obvs.
FYI, Ebay, Amazon, Tesco Direct and Ikea sell this stuff at stupidly cheap prices. Turns out we can afford to keep the kids and fund my habit keep them happy.
Love it! Ikea sell train track too
Yep I already listed it in the post
Doh, missed it
Oh this made me ROFL….I am SO jealous of your train turning circle *runs off to Tesco*
I'm not in the habit of linking my blog up to comments but have a read of this: http://sahmlovingit.blogspot.com/2011/06/anything…
HAHAHAHHA!!! IT'S NOT JUST ME!!!
*satisfied nod*
thems some serious track skills you have there Mrs!
Me too! Me too! I bought one set from Lidl for Xmas, now we have a bucket full and I was so proud of my creations that I twipicced them all! For the children of course, but at one stage I did wander round the house saying 'more bridges, need more bridges'!
oooh my Princess is already into the hot wheels cars and the car rug from IKEA . . . why not add trains to the list?!
there is a HUGE IKEA on my journey to and from work . . . . .
DO IT. You know it will be worth it
I can't help thinking though, that if you happened to know a nice wooden toy seller, with a lovely range of wooden train stuff, you might get an awfully good discount in return for a link or so…..
You know, just to feed your habit )
Hah! If we get anymore, I genuinely have no idea where we'd put it! But we'll certainly give you a shout as soon as there's space, I'm all up for trying new track.
Erm…THE SMALLS. Are willing to try new track. Obvs.
wow that is impressive. We don't have any wooden ones just the chuggington one, this looks much easier and more fun. x
I love that when you do something, you do it with TOTAL commitment. Respect. My tracks are hopeless, my bridges always fall over before the train has even gone underneath. Will absolutely not be showing your tracks to my boys. I will be fired.
I am INCAPABLE of doing things half-heartedly. It's infuriating. Hmm…would you like to send your boys to me? And make sure they bring their track too
Oh wow! We have a train track like this bit nowhere near as much of it. It does look like fun though!
I gave my son a wooden train set for his birthday, I'm in awe of your creations, we keep running out of space to build our tracks, and we seem to be lacking in straight pieces. Desperately searching for some cheap ones (the rest all came from charity shops), might end up having to go to Ikea.
We gave Master A loads we acquired on eBay for Xmas…..and it has kept me occupied ever since! I am obsessed with making the most complex track possible, to the point my two have buggered off and are playing with something else. We have two many straight bits and not enough double enders to help with sidings…..
Am laughing a LOT because that sounds exactly like this household. And yeah, I analyse what pieces I need to create effective track… *snort*
I can just about get ours to join up in circle. Must try harder.
Love it! Unfortunately whenever we build train tracks in this house they keep getting destroyed by giant babies who seem to enjoying ripping them apart and chewing on them.
P.S. Didn't know lidl and Ikea stocked tracks. Will look into it.
For the love of god, I thought I was rubbish at playing with my son before, now I feel utterly useless. Off to learn how to build train tracks! x
I should give tutorials or something.
Holy crap. I am well known for my fantastic train track building skills. I have been building fabulous train tracks for almost 20 years unbeaten by nannies, parents or kids in my talents. Until now.
Damn you and your arty tracks. I hereby challenge you to a traintrack fest which will begin once I buy more awesome track.
BRING IT ON. (But let me get some more train track first too, mmkay??)
Nice to see Mr Kat isn't the only one consumed by a good track.
Every. Single. Morning. And it's not like The Smalls even ask me to do it anymore.
Ahw geeze…
What an awesome tracks. Even big guy would easily be entertain by this wooden trains. I would love to have this kind of tracks.
